About

How can a new circular, low-energy, and competitively priced dry screed system be produced?

The RECOB2 project aims to develop a new circular material designed for the production of dry screeds that are affordable and easy to install, intended for timber frame construction and renovation. This material will be based entirely on recycled local resources, primarily paper, crushed sand, metallurgical slag, and fly ash.

In addition to being sustainable, locally sourced, and fully circular, the material offers a unique set of mechanical, thermal, and acoustic properties. No such circular product currently exists. While RECOB2 specifically targets dry screeds, the broader vision is to launch an entirely new product range derived from the project’s advancements, applicable across various construction and renovation uses.

The project’s specific goal is to develop all aspects of the manufacturing process—upstream and downstream—for a new dry screed material, with commercial launch targeted within a maximum of three years following RECOB2’s completion.

This project :

  • Develops a simple, energy-efficient manufacturing process at a cost competitive with existing products;

  • Enables entry into new markets in Belgium and neighboring countries;

  • Contributes to the development of secure supply chains, unlocking new growth and reuse opportunities for secondary materials.
